This paper utilizes the method of fuzzy preference relations to select the audition performers in symphony orchestras. Pairwise comparisons based on consistent reciprocal additive transitivity are adopted to obtain the importance weights of evaluation criteria and to get the performance rating of tutti candidates with respect to each criterion. By multiplying the importance weights of evaluation criteria, and the performance ratings, the best candidate in symphony orchestras is determined. An illustrative example elicited from Southern Taiwan Pops Orchestra is used to demonstrate the selection procedures of this proposed approach.
