China and Italy are two countries with ancient civilizations and their exchanges started from ancient times. The images of China are abundant in Italian literature. Based on different thinking patterns, changes in the international environment and stages of social development, Chinese images present different characteristics in different periods, however, there exists a certain degree of inertial views or prejudices. As a widely influential novel in the 21st century, “Story of my people” (Storia della mia gente) integrates the image of China into the conflicts between globalization and localism, presenting the latest image of China as “the other” in literature.
