As China’s urbanization process is rapidly advancing, more and more young people from rural areas are flocking to cities and towns in search of work, leaving the elderly behind in rural areas with many difficulties in terms of spiritual care, medical care, economic security and daily care. In the context of rural revitalization strategies, the elderly left behind in rural areas have an impact on the quality and effectiveness of rural revitalization. Based on literature analysis and field research, this study will analyse the causes of the elderly left behind in rural areas, and seek practical ways for social work to intervene in the elderly left behind in rural areas in terms of developing rural industries, improving rural recreational facilities, improving the rural elderly care system and linking medical resources, with a view to alleviating the plight of the elderly left behind in rural areas and promoting the improvement of the overall development of rural areas.
